Run Around the EU is a Department of Education and Youth initiative, supported by Healthy Ireland and the Blue Star Programme.
It is designed to support schools to find ways to integrate physical activity with teaching and learning, prioritising participation, inclusion and FUN.

Moving More, Learning Better – Together
‘Run Around the EU’ is the first Active School physical activity initiative of 2026/27 year.
All classes, at all levels including special classes, are encouraged to participate. Working as a class, or as a school, your combined laps will allow you to visit lots of other European Union (EU) member states, learning lots of interesting facts and information along the way.

Registering is easy and it only takes one person. Once registered, you will receive a password that will allow you, and colleagues to access the Challenge Resources page.
Resources and Awards
Schools that register for this challenge gain access to a wide range of ready-made resources including maps, challenge/progress charts and a special EU-focused movement break quiz video, available in both Irish and English. In addition, they can view and download 27 EU member state fact files from the Blue Star programme, supporting teaching and learning about landmarks, languages, geography, traditions and lots more (available in Irish and English).
Participating schools will also be entered into a draw to win an outdoor table tennis table for their playground.
One prize per county, including delivery.
