Irish School WINS Top European Prize

Congratulations to St Clare’s NS, Ballyjamesduff on winning the #BeActive Education Award yesterday in Brussels. Three schools were chosen as finalists in this competition, St Clare’s Ballyjamesduff, St Clare’s NS, Harold’s Cross and a Jelgava 4th Secondary School from Latvia. Both Irish finalists are taking part in the Active School Flag programme!

BADMINTON Week – 60 Second Challenge (September 10-18)

National BADMINTON WEEK takes place September 10 – 18th, 2016.

As part of the week’s events Badminton Ireland encourages everyone to take part in their 60 SECOND CHALLENGE . The pair with the most strokes within 60 seconds are the winners and will receive a prize.  The competition is open to clubs, schools and non-badminton people. Those interested in entering the competition are asked to video themselves completing the challenge and to upload it onto the Badminton Ireland Facebook page



ASF Presentations – DATES and VENUES (2016)

ASF presentations for primary schools will take place in Education Centres and schools across the country beginning September 22nd. This year we hope to invite local ASF schools to share their experience of the process with others during the second part of the presentation.

NEW applicant and RENEWAL schools are advised to attend and early booking is advised.

#BeActive Schools Campaign – European Week of Sport (September 10-18)

European Week of Sport is fast approaching. Irish schools are encouraged to join the #BeActive Schools Campaign in what ever way that they can. #BeActive leaflets and posters will arrive in all school this week with plenty of easy ways to get everyone up and moving.

Schools have the opportunity to win sports equipment vouchers by sending in their photos of MOVE IT Monday and their ‘Take on the Teachers’ challenges. Find out more

Preparations are well underway for the European Week of Sport and Physical Activity in Ireland, 2016 with events being planned across the country  September 10th – 18th. The European Week of Sport was a great success last year with over 7000 events  taking place across Europe and over 300 of those happening in Ireland. As part of the 2016 European Week of Sport #BeActive AWARDS will be given out across 3 categories, one of which is EDUCATION

  • #BeActive EDUCATION Award – For an educational establishment that is displaying excellence in promoting and enhancing participation in sport and physical activity.

IPPEA DANCE Challenge Competition – CLOSING DATE JUNE 21

The IPPEA are delighted to launch the Irish Roar Dance Challenge! We are looking for creative and enthusiastic primary schools to dance your way into summer with this fun and exciting PE project. It’s easy to enter! As part of your PE lessons, create a dance to ‘Irish Roar’, the official song for Ireland in Euro 2016, capture it on video, and send it in MP4 format to 

The winning entry will showcase dance skills such as shape, spatial awareness, levels, effort, movement and relationships (see PE Teacher Guidelines p67). Support materials will be made available on the IPPEA Facebook page
